Assisi Assembly Promotes Naturalistic Peace Over Christ’s Kingship

VaticanNews portal (November 18, 2025) reports on Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi’s opening address to the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI) in Assisi. The article emphasizes Zuppi’s call for “peace” in “martyred Ukraine,” “developmental cooperation” in Gaza, and “equality among all women and men.” The CEI assembly, to be closed by antipope Leo XIV on November 20, frames its discussions around pastoral guidelines derived from Italy’s “Synodal Path,” with plans to finalize them in May 2026.

Omission of Christ’s Social Kingship as Foundation of Peace

The term “peace” appears seven times in the article, yet never in reference to the Regnum Christi (Kingship of Christ) – the only source of true peace. Pius XI’s encyclical Quas primas (1925) dogmatically established that “nations will be happy […] only when the individuals and the state allow themselves to be governed by Christ” (§19). Zuppi’s plea for “a sustainable architecture of peace” reduces peacebuilding to geopolitical engineering, ignoring the sine qua non condition: public submission to Christ the King. This mirrors the condemned error of the “Syllabus of Errors”: “The Church ought to be separated from the State, and the State from the Church” (Pius IX, §55).

“Christian Europe has much to say and much to reflect upon.”

Here, “Christian Europe” is invoked as a sociological entity, stripped of its theological essence. Europe’s duty is not to “reflect” but to convert and obey: “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18). The Second Council of Lyons (1274) and Boniface VIII’s Unam Sanctam (1302) defined Christ’s universal sovereignty over nations – a truth Zuppi suppresses by reducing Christianity to a humanitarian NGO.

Synodal Path as Vehicle for Modernist Subversion

The CEI’s reliance on Italy’s “Synodal Path” exposes its adherence to the heresy of democratization condemned in Pius X’s Lamentabili sane exitu: “The Church listening cooperates […] so that the Church teaching should only approve the common opinions” (Proposition 6). By deferring pastoral guidelines to May 2026, the CEI perpetuates the conciliar sect’s evolutionary dogma – a direct violation of Vatican I’s definition of de fide truths as “irreformable” (Dei Filius, Ch. 4).

Antipope Leo XIV’s Illegitimate Presidency

The article notes antipope Leo XIV will preside over the Assembly’s closing session. As the claimant occupying Peter’s Chair lacks legitimacy (Bellarmine, De Romano Pontifice II.30), his presence sacrilegiously simulates ecclesiastical authority. Canon 188.4 of the 1917 Code nullifies any office held by those who “publicly defect from the Catholic faith” – which applies to all post-1958 antipopes due to their promotion of religious liberty (contra Quanta cura §3) and ecumenism (contra Mortalium animos).

Naturalism Masquerading as Charity

Zuppi’s focus on “the marginalization of the poor, migrants, and the imprisoned” employs humanitarian language to advance naturalism. Pius XI warned against this inversion: “Charity will never be true charity unless it takes justice into constant account” (Divini Redemptoris §49). The CEI’s silence on converting souls while advocating “developmental cooperation” confirms Pius IX’s condemnation: “The Church is an enemy of […] true science” (False Syllabus, §57) – here, the science of salvation.

The False Ecumenism of “Equality”

The Cardinal’s demand for “equality among all women and men” directly contradicts the extra Ecclesiam nulla salus dogma. The Council of Florence (1442) anathematized those who claim “pagans, Jews, heretics, and schismatics […] can attain eternal life.” By equating the baptized with unbelievers, Zuppi commits the heresy of indifferentism condemned in Singulari quidem (Pius IX, 1856).
