SSPX Appeals to Antichurch Tribunal: Theatrics of a Schism Within a Schism
The National Catholic Register portal (July 14, 2026) reports that the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) has filed an appeal with the “Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith” of the Vatican against a decree declaring the group in schism for the July 1 consecration of four bishops without authorization from the usurper “Pope” Leo XIV (Robert Prevost). The appeal, submitted July 11, invokes canon 1353 of the 1983 Code to claim a suspensive effect. The SSPX statement frames the move as exercising a right “in a spirit of respect toward ecclesiastical authority and of faithful adherence to justice, truth, and the good of the Church.” This procedural maneuver before the very tribunal of the conciliar sect exposes the SSPX not as a bastion of Tradition, but as a schism within a schism desperately seeking canonical recognition from the abomination of desolation occupying the Vatican.
The Farce of Appealing to the Usurper’s Tribunal
The SSPX’s appeal to the “Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith” is a theological contradiction in actu. One cannot simultaneously claim to defend the integral Catholic faith and submit one’s cause to the judgment of a manifest heretic who has ipso facto lost the papacy. As St. Robert Bellarmine teaches in De Romano Pontifice: “A Pope who is a manifest heretic, by that very fact ceases to be Pope and head, just as he ceases to be a Christian and member of the body of the Church.” The “Pope” Leo XIV, by his public adherence to the heresies of Vatican II (religious liberty, false ecumenism, collegiality), is a non-Christian in the technical theological sense, and therefore cannot be Pope. Bellarmine states unequivocally: “A non-Christian in no way can be Pope… he cannot be the head of something of which he is not a member.”
By appealing to the “Dicastery” of this antipope, the SSPX formally recognizes his jurisdiction, thereby contradicting its own professed “resistance.” This is not recognition and resistance; it is capitulation disguised as procedure. The SSPX superior general, “Fr.” Davide Pagliarani, places the request “in the hands of the competent authorities” — authorities that derive their “competence” from the paramasonic structure of the Church of the New Advent. Lex orandi, lex credendi (the law of prayer is the law of belief): the SSPX’s procedural prayer is an act of faith in the false church.
Canonical Fiction: The 1983 Code as Tool of the Neo-Church
The invocation of canon 1353 of the 1983 Code is a juridical absurdity. The 1983 Code is the legislative product of the apostate “pope” John Paul II, promulgated for the conciliar sect. It has no binding force on the Catholic Church, which subsists in those who maintain the integral Catholic faith and the 1917 Code. Canon 188.4 of the 1917 Code — the true law of the Church — states that an office becomes vacant ipso facto and without any declaration if a cleric “publicly defects from the Catholic faith.” This applies a fortiori to the “Supreme Pontiff.” The “bishops” warning the faithful against the SSPX (Panama, San Antonio) are themselves intruders installed by the usurpers, possessing no jurisdiction because they derive their “mission” from a manifest heretic.
The SSPX’s “appeal” has no suspensive effect in the true Church because the tribunal before which it is filed does not exist canonically. It is a theatrical performance for the faithful who still believe the SSPX operates outside the neo-church. In reality, the SSPX functions as a pressure valve for the conciliar sect, absorbing traditionalist sentiment and channeling it into harmless canonical theater.
The Invalidity of Lefebvrist Orders: Poisoned Root
The article notes that two of the consecrating bishops — Alfonso de Galarreta and Bernard Fellay — were among those consecrated by Archbishop Lefebvre in 1988. What the article omits is the fatal defect at the root: Lefebvre himself was ordained a bishop by the freemason Achille Liénart in 1947. The Masonic infiltration of the hierarchy, documented since the 18th century, reached its apex in the 20th. A bishop consecrated by a freemason — even if the rite was traditional — carries a grave doubt of validity due to the defect of intention in the consecrator. As the Defense of Sedevacantism file demonstrates, “he who has departed from the faith with such preaching cannot depose or remove anyone” (Pope Celestine I on Nestorius). A fortiori, a freemason bishop cannot validly transmit the episcopacy.
Furthermore, the SSPX uses the Novus Ordo ordinal for its consecrations (or a rite so compromised by the new theology of the episcopate that it lacks the forma substantialis of the traditional Pontificale Romanum). The 1968 Pontificale, promulgated by the antipope Paul VI, altered the essential form of episcopal consecration, removing the explicit transmission of the power to govern (potestas regiminis) and the fullness of the priesthood. “Give us the old Mass, that is enough for us” — Lefebvre’s infamous words — reveal the pragmatic, not doctrinal, nature of his resistance. He accepted the new sacramental rites as valid, thereby accepting the new theology they express.
“Schism” Redefined: Resistance to the True Pope vs. Submission to the False
The article cites canon 751 of the 1983 Code: “schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.” This definition presupposes a true Supreme Pontiff. Since 1958, there has been no true Pope. The line of usurpers — John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI, Francis, and now Leo XIV — are manifest heretics who ipso facto lost all jurisdiction by Canon 188.4 (1917) and Pope Paul IV’s Bull Cum ex Apostolatus Officio: “his promotion or elevation… shall be null, void, and of no effect.”
The true schism is that of the conciliar sect from the Catholic Church. The SSPX, by recognizing the usurpers as “Supreme Pontiffs” (even while “resisting” them), is in material schism from the true Church because it refuses submission to the true Vicar of Christ (whoever he may be, canonically elected) and communion with the true bishops and faithful who hold the integral faith. The SSPX’s “schism decree” is a farce: a false church declaring a schismatic offshoot of itself to be in schism. Simulacrum iustitiae (a semblance of justice).
The SSPX’s Modernist Ecclesiology: Recognizing the Antichurch
The article states the SSPX was founded “while maintaining its opposition to aspects of conciliar teaching on ecumenism, religious freedom, and collegiality.” Note the weasel word: “aspects.” The SSPX does not reject Vatican II in toto as a robber council (concilium latrocinium); it accepts the Council as a legitimate ecumenical council but claims a “hermeneutic of continuity.” This is the heresy of the hermeneutic of continuity, condemned implicitly by St. Pius X in Pascendi Dominici Gregis and Lamentabili Sane Exitu: “The dogmas which the Church proposes as revealed are not truths of divine origin but are a certain interpretation of religious facts…” (Lamentabili, prop. 22). The SSPX treats dogma as evolving, subject to “interpretation.”
The SSPX’s “opposition” is selective and sentimental. It accepts the New Mass as valid (attending it “in case of necessity”), the new sacraments as valid, the new Code as binding, the new “bishops” as true bishops (until they “go too far”). This is Modernism in action: “Truth changes with man, because it develops with him, in him, and through him” (Lamentabili, prop. 58). The SSPX is the controlled opposition designed to keep traditionalists inside the neo-church’s perimeter.
The Silence on the Mass: The New Rite and the Propitiatory Sacrifice
The article is silent on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. This silence is the gravest accusation. The SSPX celebrates the Traditional Latin Mass (mostly), but its priests are ordained in the new rite (or by bishops ordained in the new rite), casting grave doubt on the validity of their orders. Even if orders are valid, the SSPX’s acceptance of the Novus Ordo Missae as a valid Mass — a Protestantized table of assembly that denies the propitiatory sacrifice and the Real Presence in its theology — makes them complicit in idolatry. “The Mass has been reduced to a table of assembly, and the rubrics violate the theology of the propitiatory sacrifice” — this is not “just” sacrilege; it is idolatry.
Pius XI in Quas Primas teaches: “Christ received from the Father unlimited right over all that is created, so that all is subject to His will.” The SSPX, by operating within the legal framework of the usurpers, denies Christ’s Kingship over the Church’s law. It renders to Caesar (the antipope) what belongs to God: the definition of schism, the judgment of bishops, the governance of the Church.
Conclusion: The Only Way Out is Sedevacantism
The SSPX’s appeal is the death rattle of a compromised position. It proves that “those pretending to be traditional Catholics” (the SSPX, the FSSP, the indult groups) are structurally incapable of breaking with the conciliar sect because they share its false ecclesiology: they recognize the usurpers as true Popes. “Ubi Petrus, ibi Ecclesia” — but Peter is not in the Vatican. The See of Peter is vacant (Sede Vacante). The Church subsists in the faithful remnant who hold the integral Catholic faith, the 1917 Code, the Traditional Pontificale, and the Social Kingship of Christ (Quas Primas).
The SSPX’s “canonical appeal” is a spiritual suicide. “Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus” — outside the Church (the true Church, not the conciliar sect) there is no salvation. The SSPX faithful must abandon this sinking ship and seek the true bishops and priests who maintain Catholicity without compromise. The antichurch and its controlled opposition are the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place (Matt. 24:15). Flee to the mountains.
