Conciliar Sect’s “Year of the Family”: Naturalistic Sentimentalism Masquerading as Catholic Restoration

The National Catholic Register, a flagship organ of the conciliar sect, publishes a commentary by the Lansing “bishop” Earl Boyea trumpeting a “Year of the Family” initiative. This program, launched in September 2026, consists of weekly videos featuring selected families performing domestic piety — shared meals, Scripture reading, acts of charity — presented as a template for “holiness and happiness.” The “bishop” explicitly anchors this enterprise in the Gaudium et Spes mandate of “scrutinizing the signs of the times” and cites the approval of the antipope Leo XIV (Robert Prevost). This article is not a pastoral exhortation; it is a manifesto of the neo-church’s anthropocentric inversion, reducing the domus Dei to a therapeutic support group for the culturally displaced.

The Usurped See and the Nullity of Its Acts

The author identifies himself as “Bishop Earl Boyea,” “The Most Reverend Earl Boyea,” sitting on the “Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations” of the “U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.” From the perspective of integral Catholic faith, these titles are fictions. Since the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958, the See of Peter has been vacant. The line of usurpers — John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI, Francis, and now Leo XIV (Robert Prevost) — are manifest heretics who, by the very fact of their public adhesion to the conciliar apostasy (religious liberty, ecumenism, collegiality, the new mass), have severed themselves from the Mystical Body. As St. Robert Bellarmine teaches in De Romano Pontifice: “A Pope who is a manifest heretic, by that very fact ceases to be Pope and head, just as he ceases to be a Christian and member of the body of the Church.” Wernz and Vidal confirm: “By notorious and publicly manifested heresy, the Roman Pontiff… is deprived ipso facto of his personal jurisdiction even before any declaratory sentence by the Church.”

Therefore, “Bishop” Boyea receives no jurisdiction from a true Pope. His “diocese” is a territorial fiction within the paramasonic structure occupying the Vatican. His “Year of the Family” possesses zero canonical weight, zero supernatural efficacy, and zero authority to bind the conscience of a single Catholic. It is an act of a private individual masquerading as a successor of the Apostles.

The Antipope Leo XIV: A False Shepherd Cited as Authority

Boyea writes:

Reassuringly, our apostolic approach in these matters seems to find an endorsement in the public pronouncements of Pope Leo XIV. In an address to families delivered during last year’s Jubilee Year of Hope, the Holy Father urged those present to rediscover the authentic Catholic practices of previous generations…

Here the conciliar sect’s circular validation is laid bare. A false “bishop” appeals to a false “pope” to legitimize a false pastoral program. Robert Prevost, as “Leo XIV,” is a manifest heretic who accepts the Second Vatican Council’s heretical declarations on religious liberty (Dignitatis Humanae), ecumenism (Unitatis Redintegratio), and the new ecclesiology (Lumen Gentium). By the Bull Cum ex Apostolatus Officio of Pope Paul IV, “if at any time it shall appear that any… Cardinal… or even the Roman Pontiff… has defected from the Catholic Faith or fallen into some heresy: (i) his promotion or elevation… shall be null, void, and of no effect.” No “Jubilee Year of Hope” proclaimed by a usurper can impart grace; it is a theater of the absurd, a ludibrium of the sacred.

Gaudium et Spes: The Magna Carta of Modernist Apostasy

Boyea invokes Gaudium et Spes, 4: “scrutinizing the signs of the times.” This phrase is the hermeneutical key of the conciliar revolution. It inverts the Catholic order: instead of judging the world by the immutable truth of Revelation, the Church is commanded to “read” the world — which means to conform to the spirit of the age. St. Pius X condemned this very mentality in Lamentabili Sane Exitu (1907), rejecting the proposition that “Christ did not proclaim any specific, all-encompassing doctrine suitable for all times and peoples, but rather initiated a certain religious movement, applied or applicable to different times and places” (prop. 59). The “signs of the times” rhetoric is the vehicle for the evolution of dogma, the democratization of the Church, and the surrender to secularism.

Pope Pius IX’s Syllabus of Errors (1864) anathematizes the root errors animating this initiative: “The Roman Pontiff can, and ought to, reconcile himself, and come to terms with progress, liberalism and modern civilization” (Error 80); “In the present day it is no longer expedient that the Catholic religion should be held as the only religion of the State, to the exclusion of all other forms of worship” (Error 77). The “Year of the Family” is a pastoral application of these condemned errors: a domesticated, privatized religiosity that poses no threat to the secular order.

The “Domestic Church” as Naturalistic Therapy

The article’s central motif is the “domestic church.” Boyea quotes St. John Chrysostom: “Henceforth, make your home a church in order to put the devil to flight.” But the context is entirely evacuated of the supernatural. The featured families — Jobst, Angus, Vermeulen — are presented as models of “holiness and happiness,” “wholesome, holy, and happy homes.” The language is therapeutic: “normal-sized heart get ‘bigger and bigger and bigger,'” “real holiness is for real families with very real lives,” “it’s always a sacrifice to try and do anything as a family.”

Where is the Cross? Where is the necessity of the state of grace? Where is the sacramentum of Matrimony as a participation in Christ’s union with the Church? Where is the father’s role as priest of the domestic church, offering the sacrificium laudis and leading his household in the lex orandi, lex credendi of the Traditional Latin Mass? The article mentions “Sunday Mass attendance” — but in the Novus Ordo, a Protestantized meal-service that invalidates the propitiatory sacrifice. The Vermeulens read Scripture daily for six years — but without the authentic Magisterium (which resides only in the true bishops preserving Tradition), private interpretation leads to the chaos of Protestantism, condemned by the Council of Trent.

Pius XI in Quas Primas (1925) defines the true scope of Christ’s Kingship: “His reign encompasses not only Catholic nations… but His reign encompasses also all non-Christians, so that most truly the entire human race is subject to the authority of Jesus Christ.” The family is not a “cheapest department of health, welfare, and education” (Boyea’s utilitarian phrase); it is a societas perfecta in miniature, ordained to the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Boyea’s reduction of the family to a social utility — “first, best, and cheapest department of health, welfare, and education” — is pure naturalism, indistinguishable from Masonic social engineering.

Statistical Triumphs of the False Church: The Devil’s Mockery

Boyea boasts:

In the Diocese of Lansing alone, the number of Easter converts and adult baptisms is at a 20-year high. Sunday Mass attendance has been up year-on-year since 2020. Meanwhile, our diocese is currently blessed with 31 young men studying for the priesthood, with last year’s ordination class being the largest in nearly half a century. Elsewhere, enrollment in our Catholic schools is up by approximately 600 students over the past six years.

These statistics, even if accurate, prove nothing but the success of the deception. The “converts” enter a counterfeit church; their baptisms, if administered with the new rite and doubtful intention, are of doubtful validity. The “seminarians” are formed in the conciliar seminaries, steeped in Modernism, ordained by the invalid Novus Ordo rite of Paul VI (1968), which removed the essential form of the priesthood. The “Catholic schools” teach the conciliar catechism — religious liberty, ecumenism, evolutionism. As Our Lord warned: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. By their fruits you shall know them” (Matt. 7:15-16). The fruit of the conciliar sect is the demolition of the Faith; its apparent “growth” is the swelling of the synagoga Satanae.

The collaborator’s comment — “Aslan is on the move” — citing C.S. Lewis (an Anglican, not a Catholic) reveals the literary, imaginative, non-dogmatic level on which this “revival” operates. It is fides quaerens imaginem, not fides quaerens intellectum.

The “Catholic Moment” and the Neuhausian Delusion

Boyea invokes Fr. Richard John Neuhaus: “there is most definitely a ‘Catholic moment’ afoot.” Neuhaus, a Lutheran convert turned neoconservative “Catholic” apologist, was a chief architect of the “Catholic moment” thesis — the illusion that the conciliar church could baptize American liberal democracy. This is the heresy of Americanism, condemned by Leo XIII in Testem Benevolentiae (1899). The “Catholic moment” is a chimera; the only moment is the kairos of salvation, which demands metanoia, not cultural accommodation.

Silence on the Social Kingship of Christ: The Gravest Omission

The article breathes not a word of the Social Kingship of Christ. Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King precisely to combat “the secularism of our times, so-called laicism, its errors and wicked endeavors” (Quas Primas). He taught: “When God and Jesus Christ… were removed from laws and states and when authority was derived not from God but from men, the foundations of that authority were destroyed.” Boyea’s “domestic church” is a fortress without a King. It seeks to “put the devil to flight” by family prayers while the devil reigns supreme in the laws, schools, media, and economy — because the “bishop” does not demand the public recognition of Christ’s rights.

The Syllabus condemns: “The Church ought to be separated from the State, and the State from the Church” (Error 55). The conciliar sect has internalized this separation. Its “Year of the Family” is a retreat into the private sphere, a capitulation to the secular order. True Catholic Action, as defined by Pius XI, is “the participation of the laity in the apostolate of the hierarchy” for the instaurare omnia in Christo — the restoration of all things in Christ, including the temporal order. Boyea offers a pious hobby.

The Pedagogy of Imitation: Blind Leading the Blind

Boyea admits:

The stumbling block, however, for many of those who desire to establish a healthy domestic church is that faith-filled experiences may have been lacking in their own youth. They aren’t always quite sure what a domestic church looks like, smells like, feels like, or sounds like.

This is an indictment of the conciliar sect’s own 60-year catechetical vacuum. The solution proposed — “observe and imitate those families featured in our weekly Year of the Family films” — is the pedagogy of behaviorism, not the pedagogy of grace. The true domestic church is built on the sacramentum of Matrimony, the daily Traditional Latin Mass, the Divine Office recited in the home, the fasting and abstinence of the traditional calendar, the rosary in its unadulterated form, the catechism of Trent or St. Pius X, the rejection of television/internet filth, the education of children in Catholic schools staffed by religious in habits teaching Thomistic philosophy. The Vermeulens’ “chaotic family of four high-energy, very talkative boys” doing a “really quick prayer” before bed is not the ecclesia domestica; it is a caricature.

Conclusion: A Potemkin Village of Piety

The “Year of the Family” is a Potemkin village erected by the conciliar sect to simulate vitality while the supernatural life has fled. It uses the vocabulary of Tradition (“domestic church,” “Chrysostom,” “Scripture,” “prayer”) but empties them of their dogmatic content. It appeals to a false pope, cites a heretical council document, celebrates naturalistic “happiness,” and ignores the Social Kingship of Christ. It is a sedative for the lukewarm, a distraction from the extirpation of the Faith.

True Catholic families do not need a “bishop’s” weekly video to know their duty. They need valid priests offering the True Mass, true bishops teaching the integral Faith, and the courage to “obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29) — including the men in miters who occupy the diocesan chanceries. The restoration of the domestic church will come not from Lansing’s “Year of the Family,” but from the restitutio of the Catholic priesthood, the Catholic episcopate, and the Catholic Papacy. Viva Cristo Rey!
