Vatican News portal reports on an interview with Sviatoslav Shevchuk, the Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halyč of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, dated April 11, 2026. Shevchuk expresses the willingness of Ukrainians to join the “prayer vigil for peace” presided over by the antipope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Basilica on the eve of Eastern Easter. He articulates hopes for “a world without war” and “a genuine, just, and lasting peace” for Ukraine, drawing parallels between the suffering of Ukrainians and the Passion of Christ, and highlighting the testimonies of Ukrainian children. This entire spectacle, however, is a masterclass in the conciliar sect’s characteristic evasion of the only true source of peace: the Social Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the unyielding demands of His Law.
The “Peace” of the World: A Denial of Christ’s Kingship
The interview with Sviatoslav Shevchuk, as presented by Vatican News, is a textbook example of the conciliar sect’s naturalistic and modernist approach to peace. The “peace” invoked is purely horizontal, a worldly aspiration devoid of any supernatural foundation. Shevchuk speaks of “human fragility,” “strength of the Lord,” and “hope of the Resurrection,” yet these are emptied of their true Catholic meaning, reduced to sentimental platitudes that could emanate from any secular humanitarian organization. The core message is a plea for “a world without war” and “a genuine, just, and lasting peace,” but conspicuously absent is any mention of the *sine qua non* of true peace: the recognition of Christ the King’s dominion over all nations and individuals.
Pius XI, in his encyclical *Quas Primas*, unequivocally stated: “the hope of lasting peace will not yet shine upon nations as long as individuals and states renounce and do not wish to recognize the reign of our Savior.” He further elaborated that “the entire human society had to be shaken, because it lacked a stable and strong foundation” when “authority was derived not from God but from men.” The “peace” advocated by Shevchuk and the antipope Leo XIV is precisely the “peace” of a world that has rejected Christ’s authority, a peace built on sand, destined to crumble. It is the “peace” of the *Syllabus of Errors*, condemned by Pius IX, which asserts that “the Roman Pontiff can, and ought to, reconcile himself, and come to terms with progress, liberalism and modern civilization” (Proposition 80). This is not the peace of Christ, but the false peace of the world, which is enmity with God (James 4:4).
The Suffering of Ukraine: A Call for Repentance, Not Just “Peace”
While the suffering of the Ukrainian people, especially the children, is undeniably tragic, the conciliar sect’s response, as exemplified by Shevchuk’s interview, is profoundly deficient from an integral Catholic perspective. The article speaks of “human fragility in the context of war has become the fragility of Christ himself” and how “fragility is revealing a strength of the Lord present among us.” This is a dangerous sentimentalism that obscures the true theological meaning of suffering. Suffering, while capable of being redemptive when united to Christ’s Passion, is always a consequence of sin – both original and personal. The focus on “peace” without a call for repentance, conversion, and the establishment of Christ’s Kingdom is a dereliction of pastoral duty.
The *Syllabus of Errors* condemns the notion that “the teaching of the Catholic Church is hostile to the well-being and interests of society” (Proposition 40). True well-being and interests are found only in obedience to God’s law. The Church has always taught that national calamities, including wars, are often divine chastisements for the sins of nations and their leaders. A truly Catholic response to the war in Ukraine would be a thunderous call for national and individual repentance, a return to God’s commandments, and the public acknowledgment of Christ the King’s rights over Ukraine and all nations. Instead, Shevchuk offers only a vague hope for “a new beginning for a world without wars,” a utopian dream that ignores the reality of original sin and the constant need for grace. This is the “peace” of the *Syllabus*’s condemned errors, which assert that “the best theory of civil society requires that popular schools open to children of every class of the people… should be freed from all ecclesiastical authority, control and interference” (Proposition 47), thereby removing God from public life and ensuring societal decay.
The Antipope and the Conciliar Sect: Instruments of a False Peace
The entire premise of the “prayer vigil for peace” led by the antipope Leo XIV is an affront to the true Church. Leo XIV, as a usurper of Peter’s Chair, possesses no authority to lead such a vigil, nor can his prayers be efficacious for the true peace of Christ. His very existence is a sign of the “abomination of desolation” (Matt. 24:15) standing in the holy place. The conciar sect, of which Shevchuk is a prominent member, is not the true Church of Christ but a modernist counterfeit, a “paramasonic structure” designed to undermine the Faith and lead souls to perdition.
The *Syllabus of Errors* explicitly condemns the idea that “the Church is not a true and perfect society, entirely free- nor is she endowed with proper and perpetual rights of her own, conferred upon her by her Divine Founder; but it appertains to the civil power to define what are the rights of the Church, and the limits within which she may exercise those rights” (Proposition 19). The conciliar sect, by its very nature, has surrendered these rights to the spirit of the world, becoming a tool for secular agendas rather than a beacon of divine truth. The “peace” it promotes is not the peace of Christ, which “surpasses all understanding” (Phil 4:7) and is found only in His Kingdom, but the false peace of the world, which is merely the absence of conflict, often achieved through compromise with evil.
The Omission of Truth: The Gravest Accusation
The most glaring deficiency of Shevchuk’s interview, and indeed of the entire conciliar approach, is its systematic omission of the only true solution to the world’s ills. There is no mention of the necessity of conversion to the Catholic Faith, the only true religion. There is no call for the establishment of Christ the King’s social reign, which alone can bring lasting peace. There is no condemnation of the modern errors that have led to the current global chaos, errors so clearly identified and condemned by Popes like Pius IX, St. Pius X, and Pius XI.
St. Pius X, in *Lamentabili Sane Exitu*, condemned the modernist proposition that “the Church is an enemy of the progress of natural and theological sciences” (Proposition 57) and that “truth changes with man, because it develops with him, in him, and through him” (Proposition 58). The conciliar sect, by embracing these very errors, has abandoned the immutable truths of the Faith in favor of a constantly evolving, worldly “peace.” The *Syllabus of Errors* further condemns the idea that “in the present day it is no longer expedient that the Catholic religion should be held as the only religion of the State, to the exclusion of all other forms of worship” (Proposition 77). This is precisely the indifferentism that permeates the conciar sect’s approach to peace, where all religions are seen as equally valid paths to God, and the unique salvific mission of the Catholic Church is denied.
The “peace” offered by Shevchuk and the antipope Leo XIV is a chimera, a deceptive illusion that distracts from the only true path to peace: the return of individuals and nations to the sweet yoke of Christ the King, the acceptance of His revealed truths, and the obedience to His Church’s infallible Magisterium. Until this is done, all “prayer vigils” and “appeals for peace” will be nothing but empty gestures, serving only to further the agenda of the modernist revolution that has devastated the Church and the world. The true Church, enduring in the faithful who profess the integral Catholic faith, alone possesses the means to bring about the peace of Christ, for she alone is “the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim 3:15).
