The Vatican News portal (July 2, 2026) publishes an editorial by Andrea Tornielli lamenting the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X’s episcopal consecrations of July 1, 2026, branding them a “new schism” and citing a “Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith” note declaring the Fraternity’s confessions and marriages “invalid.” The piece recounts the 1988 Lefebvre consecrations, Benedict XVI’s 2009 lifting of excommunications, Francis’s 2016 “faculties,” and “Pope” Leo XIV’s dismissal of the traditionalists’ refusal to accept Vatican II. This theater of the absurd exposes two wings of the same Modernist bird: a conciliar sect demanding submission to its own apostasy, and a pseudo-traditionalist fringe recognizing the usurpers while simulating resistance.
The Conciliar Sect’s Hypocrisy: Judging Schism While Destroying Unity
Tornielli’s narrative frames the FSSPX’s act as a “schismatic act” against the “Vicar of Christ.” This is the language of Antichrist. The true Church teaches that schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him (CIC 1917, Can. 1325 §2). But this definition presupposes a true Roman Pontiff. Since 1958, the See of Peter has been occupied by manifest heretics—John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI, Francis, and now Leo XIV (Robert Prevost)—who have publicly defected from the Catholic Faith by promulgating the heresies of Vatican II: religious liberty (Dignitatis Humanae), ecumenism (Unitatis Redintegratio), collegiality, and the New Mass.
Pope Pius IX in the Syllabus of Errors (1864) condemned the proposition: “The Roman Pontiff can, and ought to, reconcile himself, and come to terms with progress, liberalism and modern civilization” (Error 80). Leo XIV’s statement—“they refuse to accept certain fundamental elements of the Church, beginning with several points of the Second Vatican Council. If that is the choice they make, I am sorry, but we must move forward”—is the quintessence of this condemned error. He confirms the conciliar sect’s essence: a paramasonic structure built on the ruins of the Faith, demanding obedience to its own revolution.
The “Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith” declares FSSPX sacraments “invalid.” By what authority? A heretic possesses no jurisdiction. St. Robert Bellarmine teaches: “A manifest heretic… by that very fact ceases to be Pope and head… he cannot be the head of something of which he is not a member” (De Romano Pontifice, Bk. 2, Ch. 30). Paul IV’s Bull Cum ex Apostolatus Officio declares the elevation of a heretic “null, void, and of no effect” before any declaration. The conciliar “bishops” and “priests” derive their “faculties” from an antipope; they have no more jurisdiction than a Protestant minister. Their declaration of “invalidity” is a juridical farce masking the void of their own apostasy.
The FSSPX: Controlled Opposition and Theological Incoherence
The article admits Lefebvre signed Sacrosanctum Concilium and Dignitatis Humanae, celebrated the 1965 “experimental Mass,” and acknowledged the “legitimacy and validity” of John Paul II’s election. This is the smoking gun. One cannot sign a heretical document (religious liberty contradicts the Syllabus and Quanta Cura), participate in a bastardized liturgy, recognize a manifest heretic as Pope, and then claim to “resist” for the Faith.
The 1988 protocol signed with Ratzinger promised “fidelity to the Catholic Church and to the Roman Pontiff” and acceptance of Lumen Gentium 25 (collegiality). The 2026 consecrations—performed by “Bp.” Fellay, “Bp.” de Galarreta, et al.—are not acts of episcopal necessity for the salvation of souls (salus animarum suprema lex), but acts of institutional self-preservation for a corporation within the neo-church. The article notes the Fraternity “is not seeking, first and foremost, canonical recognition” but “doctrinal clarity.” False. They seek a personal prelature—a canonical cage within the conciliar sect—while paying lip service to Tradition.
Canon 188 §4 of the 1917 Code states an office becomes vacant ipso facto if a cleric “publicly defects from the Catholic faith.” Lefebvre’s public adhesion to the conciliar “popes” and Council was public defection. His “suspension a divinis” by Paul VI was invalid (heretic judging Catholic), but his subsequent recognition of the usurpers placed him outside the Church. The “Two Lucys” theory applied to Fatima finds its parallel here: there is only one FSSPX, and it is a schism within the schism of the conciliar sect.
The Farce of “Faculties” and “Validity”: Sacramental Theology Inverted
Tornielli highlights Francis’s grant of “faculties to hear confessions” via Misericordia et misera and the Dicastery’s counter-declaration that these confessions and marriages are “invalid.” This is Modernist sacramental nominalism. Jurisdiction for Penance and Marriage (Can. 872, 1094 CIC 1917) requires a canonical mission from a legitimate Ordinary. The conciliar “Ordinary” is a heretic; the FSSPX “priest” has no mission from a true bishop (consecrated in the new rite of 1968, doubtful validity; or by Lefebvre, who recognized the antipope).
St. Pius X in Lamentabili Sane Exitu (1907) condemned the Modernist error: “The sacraments merely serve to remind man of the presence of the ever-benevolent Creator” (Prop. 41). The conciliar sect reduces sacraments to juridical tokens dispensed by a bureaucratic “Dicastery.” The FSSPX simulates the Mass of Ages while recognizing the author of the Novus Ordo as “Pope.” Both sides profane the Most Holy Sacrifice. As Pius XI taught in Quas Primas: “When God and Jesus Christ were removed from laws and states… the foundations of that authority were destroyed.” Here, Christ the King is removed from the sanctuary; the “Mass” becomes a “table of assembly,” and “Confession” a therapeutic dialogue. The “invalidity” declared by the Dicastery is not a defense of truth but a defense of their counterfeit jurisdiction.
Leo XIV and the “Synodal” Antichurch: Moving Forward into the Abyss
“Pope” Leo XIV (Robert Prevost) dismisses the rupture: “Certainly, division among Christians is always a painful matter… we must move forward.” Move forward where? Into the abomination of desolation (Matt. 24:15). Pius XI warned: “The state must leave the same freedom to the members of Orders… who are indeed the most valiant helpers of the Pastors of the Church and contribute most to the expansion and establishment of Christ’s Kingdom” (Quas Primas). The conciliar sect does the opposite: it suppresses the true Mass, canonizes heretics (John Paul II, Paul VI), promotes Pachamama worship, and blesses sodomy (Fiducia Supplicans).
Leo XIV’s refusal to demand the FSSPX accept only the Council—but “fundamental elements of the Church” identified with the Council—confirms the hermeneutic of rupture disguised as continuity. The Syllabus (Error 55) condemned: “The Church ought to be separated from the State, and the State from the Church.” The conciliar sect has separated the Church from Christ the King. Leo XIV is not the Vicar of Christ; he is the vicar of the Revolution.
The Silence on the Supernatural: Naturalistic Narrative of a False Church
Read Tornielli’s text closely. It is a purely naturalistic, juridical, political chronicle. Words: “canonical solution,” “personal prelature,” “juridical status,” “media attention,” “dialogue,” “reconciliation,” “faculties.” Absent words: Salvation, Grace, Sin, Hell, Judgment, Kingship of Christ, Social Reign, Immaculate Conception, Papal Infallibility, Catholic Truth.
This silence is the gravest accusation. The “Church” described is a human NGO managing internal disputes. The FSSPX is a dissenting department. Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King precisely against this “plague… so-called laicism” (Quas Primas): “The annual celebration of this solemnity will also remind states that not only private individuals, but also rulers and governments have the duty to publicly honor Christ and obey Him.” The conciliar sect and its FSSPX satellite have dethroned Christ the King in favor of the “dialogue” of Antichrist.
Non praevalebunt (Matt. 16:18). The gates of hell shall not prevail against the true Church—the remnant clinging to the integral Faith of 1958, the true Mass, and the true Papacy vacant since Pius XII. The conciliar sect and its controlled opposition are the great apostasy foretold (2 Thess. 2:3). Let the dead bury their dead (Luke 9:60). The Catholic remains sede vacante, sine episcopis, sine sacerdotibus in the visible structures, but cum Christo Rege in the catacombs of Tradition.
