Nigerian Conciliar Bishop Capitulates to Violence, Abandons Flock to Worldly Powers

The Pillar Catholic portal reports that the “Bishop” William Avenya of the conciliar Diocese of Gboko has ordered the closure of all ecclesiastical institutions in Ihugh, Benue State, and the total withdrawal of “pastoral agents” following a series of arson attacks on Church properties. This retreat, cloaked in the bureaucratic language of “redeployment” and “dialogue,” and justified by an appeal to the civil power for protection, manifests the utter theological bankruptcy of the post-conciliar sect: it has reduced the Bride of Christ to a social-service NGO, surrendered the Libertas Ecclesiae (freedom of the Church) to the secular arm, and abandoned the supernatural weapons of the true Church for the impotent diplomacy of the world.

The Illegitimacy of the Actor: A Functionary of the Neo-Church

Before analyzing the act, one must identify the actor. William Avenya is not a Catholic bishop in the theological sense. He is a functionary of the conciliar sect, a structure erected by the usurper “Benedict XVI” (Joseph Ratzinger) in 2012, itself a link in the chain of antipopes beginning with John XXIII. The Defense of Sedevacantism file establishes with Bellarminean precision that a manifest heretic ipso facto loses all jurisdiction: “A manifest heretic cannot be Pope… he cannot be the head of something of which he is not a member” (St. Robert Bellarmine, De Romano Pontifice). Since the conciliar “hierarchy” publicly professes the heresies of religious liberty, ecumenism, and collegiality—condemned by the Syllabus of Pius IX and Quanta Cura—they possess no authority to teach, govern, or sanctify. Avenya’s “decree” of closure is therefore a nullity in the internal forum of divine law; it is merely the administrative act of a paramasonic official managing the liquidation of assets.

Reduction of the Church’s Mission to Naturalistic Humanitarianism

The pastoral letter reveals the anthropocentric inversion at the heart of the neo-church. Avenya writes: “The Church cannot, in conscience, continue to expose her priests, consecrated persons, teachers, medical personnel, students, and patients to danger, nor continue to invest the resources of God’s people where they are not safe and are not valued.” Not a word is spoken of the salus animarum (salvation of souls), the supreme law of the Church (1917 CIC, Canon 1752). The institutions closed—St. Thomas Hospital, St. Winifred Schools, St. Winifred Parish—are treated as social infrastructure, not as outposts of the Regnum Christi (Kingdom of Christ).

Pius XI in Quas Primas thundered: “When God and Jesus Christ… were removed from laws and states… the foundations of that authority were destroyed… the entire human society had to be shaken, because it lacked a stable and strong foundation.” Avenya’s decision confirms this shaking. By withdrawing the Unbloody Sacrifice of Calvary (the true Mass), the sacraments, and the preaching of the Gospel from Ihugh because of physical danger, he declares that the supernatural order is subordinate to temporal safety. This is the heresy of humanitarianism condemned by St. Pius X in Lamentabili sane exitu (prop. 59: “Christ did not proclaim any specific, all-encompassing doctrine suitable for all times and peoples…”—the modernist error that doctrine adapts to circumstance). The true Church, as the Syllabus of Pius IX teaches (Error 55), cannot be separated from the State in the sense of retreating from the public square; she must conquer it for Christ.

Capitulation to the State: Violation of the Church’s Divine Liberty

The letter states: “We call on the law enforcement agencies and the government at all levels to do their duty to protect lives and property, and to bring to justice those responsible for these acts.” This appeal to the braccium saeculare (secular arm) as the primary guarantor of the Church’s freedom is a direct repudiation of Quas Primas and the Syllabus. Pius XI declared: “The Church, established by Christ as a perfect society, demands for itself by a right belonging to it, which it cannot renounce, full freedom and independence from secular authority.” The Syllabus (Error 20) condemns: “The ecclesiastical power ought not to exercise its authority without the permission and assent of the civil government.” Avenya inverts this: he makes the Church’s presence conditional on the civil government’s permission (security guarantees).

Furthermore, the removal of the Blessed Sacrament is the liturgical sign of this surrender. In the true Church, the Tabernacle is the fortress; the Real Presence is the guarantee of victory. “He who gives the Kingdom of Heaven does not take away earthly things!” (Pius XI, Quas Primas, citing the hymn Crudelis Herodes). To remove the Eucharistic King because the soldiers of Satan burn buildings is to deny His Kingship in re. It is the practical application of the Modernist error condemned in Lamentabili (prop. 52): “Christ did not intend to establish the Church as a community lasting for centuries on earth…”—i.e., the Church is a temporary human project, not a divine, indefectible society.

The Fatima Connection: Invocation of a Masonic Construct

The letter concludes: “May Our Lady, Queen of Peace… intercede for us.” The title “Queen of Peace” is inextricably linked to the False Fatima Apparitions. The context file demonstrates that Fatima is a “Masonic ‘psychological operation’ against the Church” involving “ritualistic 200-year cycles” (1717, 1917, 2017) and a “Miracle of the Sun” explained as “mass optical manipulation… and mass panic and autosuggestion.” The “consecration of Russia” demanded by Fatima is a “hyper-act” of worship that “undermines the centralized role of the Church and the sacraments” and promotes “national conversion without evangelization”—“contradicts Catholic ecclesiology.” By invoking this title, Avenya binds his “diocese” to a false revelation that serves the ecumenical agenda of the neo-church (opening “the way to religious relativism… legitimize dialogue with schismatic Orthodoxy”) and diverts attention from the “modernist apostasy within the Church.” True Catholic piety invokes the Regina Coeli, the Auxilium Christianorum of Lepanto, not the fabricated idol of the Cova da Iria.

The Scandal of Clerical Political Involvement

The article notes Ihugh is the hometown of “Fr. Hyacinth Alia, a priest of the Diocese of Gboko who was suspended by Avenya before running successfully for governor of Benue State in 2023.” This is the fruit of the conciliar “priesthood”. The 1917 Code (Canon 140) forbids clerics from holding public office involving participation in the exercise of civil power. The Syllabus (Error 75) condemns the confusion of the temporal and spiritual powers. A “priest” becoming a governor is the reductio ad absurdum of the conciliar “lay apostolate” and the Gaudium et Spes anthropology: the cleric becomes a politician, the Church becomes a political party. Avenya’s “suspension” was likely not for the scandal of political ambition per se, but for breaking ranks with the local power structure—a purely jurisdictional spat within the sect.

Symptomatic of the Great Apostasy: The Abomination of Desolation in Action

This event is not an isolated tragedy; it is a symptom of the abominatio desolationis (Matt. 24:15) standing in the holy place. The “Church” that flees from persecution is not the Church of the Martyrs. The true Church, as Pius XI teaches, “gives birth to and raises up ever new ranks of holy men and women” precisely “when the flames of mutual hatred and internal discord consume… people and nations distant from God.” The conciliar sect, having abandoned the Mass of the Ages for the Novus Ordo (a “table of assembly” that is idolatry, not merely sacrilege), having replaced the Social Kingship of Christ with “dialogue” and “human rights,” possesses no supernatural vitality. It cannot withstand the gates of hell because it has ceased to be the Church Militant; it has become a NGO of the New World Order.

The “day of prayer and fasting” declared for October 23 is a Pharisaical performance. Fasting without the true Faith, without the true Sacrifice, without the true Priesthood, is “an abomination to the Lord” (Prov. 15:8). The faithful of Ihugh—those few who still keep the integral Catholic Faith—are now deprived even of the simulacra of grace, abandoned by the very hirelings (John 10:12) who should have laid down their lives for the sheep. “The hireling fleeth, because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep.” This is the inevitable end of the Great Apostasy foretold by St. Paul (2 Thess. 2:3): the structures occupying the Vatican have become the synagogue of Satan (Apoc. 2:9), and their “bishops” are but administrators of the dissolution.

“He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who gathereth not with Me scattereth.” (Matt. 12:30). Avenya has scattered. The true remedy is not “dialogue with traditional rulers” but the Consecratio Russiae to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as defined by the true Magisterium (Pius XII, 1942, 1952)—not the Masonic caricature of Fatima—and the restoration of the Tridentine Mass and Catholic Doctrine in their integral purity. Until then, the “Church in Nigeria” will continue to be a field hospital for the world, having forgotten it is a Church Militant for Heaven.
